Hi Tina thanks for your response – perhaps Deft has changed since you used it – when I go in to make a payment it asks me to choose a payment method and the drop down arrows give add a bank account or add a credit card – when I click on add a bank account I then have to enter the account no. and bsb then I have to click the 2 boxes-
1 which says I am the owner of the bank account and
2nd says ‘I request and authorise Macquarie Bank Ltd (DEFT) to debit amounts as nominated by my Biller (eg real estate agent or property manager) from the nominated bank account above’
This is signing away the rights for them to deduct however much they choose – I know it will 99.9% always be that they only deduct the amount I ask them to however that is not the point – no one should be made to authorise such a thing – I am astounded that most people are just doing this without question.
