In our block some  residents own garages, some own car spaces and some have no parking on their lots. The residents who have garages park their large vehicles outside their garages ,on common property, because, they say” their cars are too big for their garages which were built 50 years ago.

They have been told that they must have a bye law passed to allow them to park on common property . These residents have proposed at the next AGM that they want this parking on common property to be permitted but not to have a bye law.   There is probably enough residents, to get something like this passed.   It would mean thar one such parking would block  an entrances to the block of units.

If this was voted in this would mean that they would have 2 parking areas available and some residents would have none.  This seems unfair.

Really?  You couldn’t muster 25 percent of votes to block it?

Perhaps there is a trade off between people without car spaces being allowed to use the garages.  Or do the monster truck owners want to have their cake and park it?

But seriously, I think your block needs to have an audit of the available parking and the parking needs of owners and come up with a comprehensive plan that probably won’t suit everyone but won’t be driven exclusively to suit the needs of an already privileged few.

Every problem is an opportunity in strata and this may be a chance to address the parking issue to everyone’s benefit.
