While seeking legal advice on a strata matter, a name in the file prompted my solicitor to say that there is a well known scam operating by a legal firm in Sydney making an industry out of attending AGMs, usually at the behest of strata managers, spruiking their ability to sue for defects.
They charge $4000-5000 to do the preliminaries then advocate a full search by a team associated with the firm. This produces pages of defects often so small that they are not actually defects at all under the Building Code, but which look alarming on the produced document, thus encouraging the residents to continue paying for the legal advice.
Anyone else been caught?
