More Seats: Some clever reconfiguration of the seating has enable a few more people to be safely admitted to this venue. That means there is a handful of new seats available. Also, if you live stream the even, you will get a free recording of it too. Click HERE for more details.

It may seem a little counter-intuitive to spruik an event that has almost sold out, but in these days of ever-changing capacity limits, plus the option of live webinars, “sold out” is a flexible concept.

This Thursday, December 9, I (JimmyT) will be hosting the Owners Corporation Network’s annual Strata Matters conference in North Sydney.

Right now, all but a few tickets have gone but there will be professional live streaming of the event, as it happens, for a modest fee, so you can watch it from home (but you have to make your own lunch). Also you will be sent a recording of the event later.

So what’s it all about? You are going to hear from a number of key people in NSW strata as well as owners with their own personal experiences.  And you will be able to ask questions of an expert panel.

Firstly there will be a keynote address by Better Regulation (Fair Trading) Minister Kevin Anderson, followed by the man who has done more to change the strata landscape in NSW than anyone in decades, Building Commissioner David Chandler.

We’ll also hear from Fair Trading’s Consumer Building & Property Director Matt Whitton, and Amy Randazzo, Fair Trading Senior Co-ordinator of Home Building Issues, Resolutions and Advisory Services.

Then Flat Chat podcast co-host, property writer, author and co-founder of OCN, Sue Williams will talk about when to take your issues to the media and what to expect when you do.

After lunch (included in the ticket) owner Martin Davies will explain how he drew on his professional experience to get developers and builders to rectify defects in an apartment block where he’d bought off the plan.

And then, finally, our expert panel of Martin, David Chandler, Matt Whitton, Amy Randazzo and OCN Executive Officer Karen Stiles will take your questions, some fired at them by yours truly.

It should be an entertaining and informative day so head over to the OCN website where you can find out more about the speakers, how to get on the wait list, stream the event live and post your questions to the panel.

Strata Matters will take place at the View Hotel, 17 Blue Street, North Sydney – literally two minutes from the railway station – from 10 am to 2pm on Thursday December 9, with pre-session coffee and lunch included.

At this point, proof of double-vax will be required and masks must be worn by attendees. The event is sponsored by Mybos strata management software and City of Sydney.

If you have a ticket, arrive early to get checked in (and before I eat all the biscuits).
