Roundup: Elevated anger over lifts that never arrive

Ever wondered why you always seem to be waiting ages for the lifts in your building?

Maybe the lady upstairs is holding it for her partner while he hunts for his keys, hat or phone (or all of the above).

Or someone is moving in when they shouldn’t be and have commandeered every available elevator.

Maybe your strata committee have awarded themselves special executive “express” passes so they can go straight in or out of the building without encountering whingeing residents with their constant complaints.

Or maybe other people in the building have learned the secret “cop code” – that combination of buttons that takes you to whatever floor you need to go to without stopping.

Or perhaps, like this Flatchatter, you have a creaky old lift that won’t perform the way it’s supposed to, and a creaky old committee who won’t pay to have it fixed.

Have a look – and you will learn something amazing about the connection between your computer and some of the oldest elevators in existence.

Then, when you have finished playing in the lifts, you can turn your attention to some of the issues confusing, annoying and intriguing the Flat Chat faithful this week.

  • Can I put plantation shutters over the INSIDE of my windows? THAT’S HERE.
  • Chairman won’t do anything about his mate whose car blocks the driveway. THAT’S HERE.
  • How much can strata managers charge for owners viewing strata records? THAT’S HERE.
  • Do I need special insulation to put a floating timer floor on top of magnesite? THAT’S HERE.
  • Strata manager has allowed villa neighbour to fence off common property. THAT’S HERE.

Of course, by the time you read this there will be even more on the Flat Chat website – but be careful: once you start reading the posts, it’s totally addictive.
