Parcel lockers can deliver a sense of security

Every so often here at Flat Chat we come across a commercial idea that makes so much strata sense that we are happy to promote it, no fee or favours involved.

Groundfloor Parcel Lockers is, say its people, a smart parcel locker systems that automates the entire parcel delivery storage and collection process.

If you are in a strata block that doesn’t have a concierge or on-site manager – and that’s the vast majority – then you may have an issue when it comes to getting parcels and food delivered … unless you want them left in your entrance lobby or have to go to your post office to collect them.

And that’s where Groundfloor comes in. Here’s their sales pitch:

Black Friday sales held at the end of November are now officially larger than Boxing Day sales and the prevalence of online shopping is growing at a rate of 12.6% with forecasted online sales to top $76 billion by 2027.

With over a billion parcels delivered in 2022, receiving parcels is already a complex issue for many strata-based properties. Issues arising from increased parcel deliveries include:

– Parcel Theft

– Security/access issues with couriers

– Messy Lobbies/ aesthetics of entrance and lobbies

– Convenience for residents.

– Storage space for parcels

All courier companies can deliver directly into our locker system. The courier simply scans the parcel, selects the resident’s name, selects a locker size, places the parcel in the locker, closes the locker door and our system sends the resident a text message for them to collect their parcel.

We are finding the aforementioned parcel challenges to become increasingly prevalent … particularly as the peak parcel months of November and December approach and these challenges become visibly apparent to residents of strata properties.

Interested? You can check out Groundfloor – or, more to the point, get your strata committee to do so – by logging into their website.

A lot of parcel couriers will not deliver to PO Boxes or parcel lockers; they insist on having a proper residential address.

But if you are not home when the delivery comes, the parcel is taken to the nearest post office, or some contracted pick up agent anyway.

I’m guessing if the lockers catch on, the couriers will follow.  Chicken and egg.
